Product Description
Fly for Real in Golden Scenery
Welcome to Australia's southernmost mainland state – Victoria -- and its capital, Melbourne. Victoria is famous for three things: the gold rush, the Ned Kelly gang, and delicious wines. It also hosts the annual Australian National Airshow. But there's a lot more when it comes to scenery, including the magnificent Great Ocean Road which is counted amongst the most scenic coastal roads in the world.
Silver Screen Fame
The story of the Kelly gang claims to be the world's first full length feature film and was, of course, filmed within Victoria's scenery, as was the recent remake Ned Kelly. Victoria was also portrayed in the Picknick at Hanging Rock, which not surprisingly features Hanging Rock, a rare volcanic rock formation. The Man from Snowy River was filmed in the scenic Victorian Alpine Region, and Mad Max was also filmed at several locations in Victoria.
Our Promise
Whether you explore the scenic and rugged Victorian Alps in the east or the tamer volcanic mountain ranges and rock formations in the west, every single flight in Victoria should give you plenty of enjoyment and is as close to the real thing as possible - that is our promise!
Visit Famous Nature
The state of Victoria is the size of about 237,000 sq km, which is a bit smaller than the UK and the same size as Minnesota. It offers plenty of scenery, of which the Great Ocean Road is the most famous, attracting seven million visitors a year. This statistic is amazing considering that the whole population of Victoria barely tops five million! Almost one-fifth of Victoria's total area is protected. Over one-third of its area is covered in forest and there are a total of 36 national parks. If you want to experience scenery at its finest, look no further. This scenery add-on will deliver.
Explore the Rugged Alps
Victoria includes the southern part of the Great Dividing Range, Australia's longest mountain chain. Part of the Great Dividing Range is made up of the Australian Alps, which include Australia's highest mountains and form much of Victoria's eastern part. The highest peak is Mt. Bogong which is just a few metres short of 2,000 m. To experience this area for real, you need a 20 m mesh, which gives you all of the realistic mountain details.
Fly Above Dormant Volcanoes
To the west you will find an ancient field of now dormant volcanoes and the Grampians amongst other mountainous regions of volcanic origin. The Grampians are well known for their almost vertical sandstone formations and the highest peak tops 1,100 m. If you want to experience these, you need the 20 m mesh. With the 20 m mesh, you'll also find the craters in dormant volcanoes and you can also find ancient lava flows - this is the detail that this mesh offers.
This scenery add-on lets you experience all of this almost like you could in real life. There are dozens and dozens of places to explore in this scenery. You have the freedom to explore Victoria without ever visiting - this is the next best thing to booking a holiday and hiring a real plane.
Essential for Your Real VFR Flight
Mountains of Victoria is a mesh product. Mesh basically defines the shape of the mountains in Flight Simulator. A good quality mesh can turn a landscape of generic, uninspiring hills into an exciting landscape with dramatic mountains full of mindboggling ridges, cliffs, and deep cut valleys. It can make mountains look much more realistic, giving you the immersive feeling of really being there while you observe a much more complex network of light and shadows created by rock outcrops and other natural irregularities that don't exist in low quality mesh. For many VFR pilots a good quality mesh is essential for an enjoyable VFR flight.
20 m Gives You Incredible Realism
There is absolutely no doubt that our mesh blows away what FS2004 offers by default. There is no comparison. But what sort of difference can you expect compared to other freeware meshes or to the FSX default? These meshes are derived from the freely available SRTM meshes. SRTM meshes have a resolution of 90 m. Compare this to our resolution of 20 m. This means that our resolution is four and a half times better. This is like comparing a one megapixel digital photo camera to a four and a half megapixel photo camera. On top of that, SRTM is often plagued with groundbreaking issues. Regions that have been covered by clouds during SRTM data capture can look nasty. Our mesh doesn't have any of these issues.
