Product Description
Fly and Experience World Famous Scenery
New Zealand's magnificent mountains have gained world fame as Middle Earth's mysterious Misty Mountains and the fiery Mt Doom. Imagine yourself flying over this stunning landscape that has been chosen by Hollywood's directors for several recent blockbuster films. Join simmers worldwide who are in absolute awe of what this scenery offers.
Our Promise
Whether you get lost in the jaw-dropping mazes formed by the mountains of fiordland, visit the panoramic mountain backdrops framing the idyllic southern lakes, race up the dramatic glaciers that twist their ways up into the icy snow fields of the Southern Alps, or visit the amazing landscapes of the North Island that have been shaped by active volcanoes, every single flight in New Zealand is spectacular and as close to the real thing as possible - that is our promise!
Visit World Heritage Nature
New Zealand is a country about the size of 268,000 sq km, which is a bit bigger than the UK and the same size as Colorado. It is world famous for its scenic landscape which changes dramatically from one area to another, and attracts over two million tourists per year - an amazing number considering the whole population of New Zealand is less than four million! A whopping one-third of New Zealand's total area is protected, and the country boasts 14 national parks, five of which have world heritage status. If you want to experience scenery at its finest, look no further. This scenery add-on delivers.
Explore Fiery Mountains
Sitting right at the edge of the Pacific and Australian tectonic plates, New Zealand is almost entirely made up of mountain chains. This defines why this high resolution mesh makes all the difference in your sim. There are 19 peaks that top 3000 m, including Mt. Cook at 3750 m. Sitting across a tectonic plate boundary means that New Zealand is geothermically active, which translates into dozens of volcanoes. Some of these are very active, including the 2700 m high Mt. Ruapehu, which last erupted in the late 1990s and scared hundreds of skiers off the mountain. With the 20 m mesh installed, all of these volcanoes have real craters, something the free SRTM meshes can't offer.
Soar above Icy Glaciers
New Zealand also features spectacular glaciers. The Tasman Glacier, at a length of 29 km, is the longest. Close by, you can find two glaciers that are among the most accessible in the world, and they extend right into the rainforest below - an awesome sight. These glaciers attract 1,000 tourists daily, and you can hear the buzzing of helicopters overhead. Also worth visiting are the numerous fiords and sounds that make up coastal areas of jaw-dropping beauty. In fact, Milford Sound (which confusingly is a fiord, not a sound) is probably the most famous scenic spot in New Zealand.
Essential for Your Real VFR Flight
Mountains of New Zealand is a mesh product. Mesh defines the shape of the mountains in Flight Simulator. A good quality mesh can turn a landscape of generic uninspiring hills into an exciting landscape with dramatic mountains full of mindboggling ridges, cliffs and deep cut valleys. It can make mountains look much more realistic, giving you the immersive feeling of really being there while you observe a much more complex network of light and shadows created by rock outcrops and other natural irregularities that don't exist in low quality mesh. For many VFR pilots, a good quality mesh is essential for an enjoyable VFR flight.
20 m Gives You an Incredible Realism
There is no doubt that our mesh blows away what FS2004 offers by default. There is no comparison. But what sort of differences can you expect compared to other freeware meshes or to the FSX default? These meshes are derived from the freely available SRTM meshes. SRTM meshes have a resolution of 90 m. Compare this to our resolution of 20 m. This means that our resolution is four and a half times better. This is like comparing a one megapixel digital photo camera to a four and a half megapixel photo camera.
Experience a Mesh without Flaws
On top of that, SRTM is often plagued with groundbreaking issues. Regions that have been covered by clouds during SRTM data capture can look nasty. A perfect example of this is the area of Milford Sound in FSX which is essentially unusable. Our mesh doesn't have any of these issues. We offer a freeware 75 m mesh, which is superiour to any SRTM mesh. Even if you do not decide to purchase the 20 m mesh, go ahead and download the 75m mesh. We want to make sure that you get some reasonable quality time in your Flight Simulator. Don't waste time with any SRTM meshes, your sim time is too valuable!
